The one thing that sometimes makes people and players skeptical about synthetic ice is its durability and probability to injuries. This may have been an issue in the past, but we have perfected our technology to eliminate this problem. Our panels are made of the best material and are designed and constructed to fit into each other seamlessly so as to leave no gaps, cracks or bumps that will be injurious to the skater in any way. This is a major advantage over many competitive products even today that have flawed joint systems that over time can be hazardous.

Our solutions have been trusted and rated highly for their ability to withstand the test of time and providing the best skating experience. So if you are looking for something that will make your ice hockey training really worth the effort, look no further. We have the answer to all your questions. Our ice training rink can be put up on any surface at all. Be it your backyard, driveway, deck or even the basement garage. Any smooth and firm surface can act as the base for laying our icing rinks. And we assure you that they will last more than 7 years in the minimum, saving you a lot of money in the long run. In fact many people get more than twice as many years as that, and at that point you can even flip the sheets over and you’ve got a fresh new surface! It is also easy to install and refit and the cost is surprisingly affordable.

Skating is a sport that depends a lot on the least amount of friction that is present in the surface. This has often been a reason why people avoid skating on synthetic surfaces. In fact, if you ask professionals, many would say that they would rather train on synthetic surfaces than on real ice. It has been proven the best training method for sports like ice hockey and figure skating where the increased resistance has been shown to lead to a considerable increase in the players’ stamina and performance.

The years have come and gone, material compositions have changed greatly, allowing for better wear and stability, which will add only to the products life, but also additives to create a Ultra Violet stabilized products which could now expand upon the areas in which Synthetic Ice can be used, no more would skating be restricted to cold temperatures outdoors in the winter or to refrigerated indoor areas in the summer, now you can use it anywhere, such as your basement, in your garage, or even out on your deck in the back yard, at any time, and as well in any season. Expansion and Contraction issues have been greatly reduced, or are almost now nonexistent due to technologically advanced ways of joining the panels together. Glide and or travel on the material has also been greatly increased with newer cleaner versions of enhancers that have been developed and are now available.

Synthetic Outdoor Hockey Rink

Wayman Harten - Wednesday, October 10, 2012
Synthetic outdoor hockey rinks have had many producers over the years and it has been commercially and publicly available and used since the early Sixties. For many years though it was an unmanageable product because of the styles in which it was produced. Butt or Spline jointing was common practice but this method had issues with expansion and contraction. When this happened it would cause the product to separate which would result in open gaps in the main skating surface. This was a major cause for safety concerns for skaters as hitting a gap could cause falls and injuries. Rinks were forced to shut down because the areas had to be re-aligned. Trying to repair an outdoor hockey rink was no easy task simply because of the weight of the product.

The older version of materials that were used were also of different grades of Polyethylenes that did not wear well. They often also required Silicone additives to be added to the surface to increase the glide factor. While this did increase the motion, it would tend to build up and become dirty from air born dust particles leaving behind a greasy and hard to clean to surface which to say the least was not very good for your equipment. Another negative side effect was that it would tend to stain all it came in contact with. All these factors combined have tarnished the general public perception of Synthetic Ice over the years. My next blog post will address how things have improved and what is available today.
